Does 96 XL AM/FM Cassette have external amp?

I just picked up a 1996 Explorer XL that has the base factory AM/FM/Cassette deck. After checking with the "FAQ" I get the impression that I don't have an external amp and that the amp is in the HU. Is this true that only the JBL/Premium systems had an external amp? I just need to know if i do indeed need to hunt down the amp to bypass it.

If the base part number is -19B132-, it DOES NOT have an external amp. If it is -19B165-, it DOES have an external amp. If it is -18C852-, it has an external amp AND external tuner, AND and external SW amp.

There were three levels of Explorer systems; Base, Premium, and Audiophile. The "Base" systems have no external amp; the Premium System has one external amp; the Audiophile System (aka JBL) has TWO external amps.
