I recently bought a 2006 Eddie Bauer with the V6 and no trailer package, but need to know if I can use the existing built in harness, IF ANY to hook up my trailer wiring. I hope not to make it a big job.
Hello, I have the 2 inch converting out of the 1 1/4 tongue. I am asking if Ford has the wiring for the trailer, including brakes already installed from the front to the rear of the 2006 Explorer. I know I will have to connect my wiring to the trailer from the built in, if there is such wiring. Thanks,
Ok the blue trailer brake wire may be near the connector just wraped in the loom. If it is there it should be within a couple feet of the plug. I know on my 2010 it's not there. But there is a connector up front for a brake controller with the blue wire where it goes and stopsiis anybodys guess.
My 2006 V6 with the small factory hitch DID have the blue wire ran within the loom ending about a foot back from the 4 pin trailer plug. It was right about by the spare tire, I just had to peel open a bit of the plastic loom.
There was also a grey connector under the dash above the brake pedal that provided every necessary wire for the controller.
I was lucky, ive heard many of the trucks do not have them. Mine was an April 2006 build
And be careful what you're towing with the 1 1/4 hitch and the ad. Are you saying you have an adapter in the factory hitch with a 2" ending ?
I have one in my garage and if this is what you have it's good for bike rack, but not towing. It adds too much leverage.
Or I may be completely wrong (sorry) and you have an aftermarket 2" hitch under the factory one.
