Does the 1st gen rear bumper and hatch

Does the 1st gen rear bummer and hatch fit a 2nd gen explorer?. The reason i ask as because i have found a good deal and the reason i want to change is to get ride of the ungly European parts on the explorer. IE the license plate location and lights (on left side of tailgate) as well as the rear fog lights incorporated in the bumper.

the first gen bumper and hatch will fit up to a 97, in 98 they redesigned teh hatch and bumper

the euro bumper should be the same, i forgot to mention that, maybe someone eles can chime in so you can be 100% sure.

you live in europe? why didn't yours come with the euro hatch and bumper in the first place?

Mine has the Euro bumper with fogs and tail gate but i want the American ones, The first generation was not officially imported until late in its life but there are a lot of privet imports around with the American parts which is what I’m trying to get hold of. I found and Eddie in the junkyard with a good rear bumper and tailgate but before buying it i want to make shore they will fit.

Yeah it is funny i was just thinking the same. I like it as its different form norm, i have already put some US front markers and wired them the way it should be. I don’t think I’m going to change the tail lights as there is very little difference between the two but the bumper and rear tail gate are quit different. I was hesitating on putting a 98 tailgate on as they are the same but i will never find one and i prefer having the license plate on the bumper. The other option was to have all the howls filled in and repaint the existing tailgate. This may sound ridiculous to some but i can’t explain it i just need to do it.

When i had my Cherokee it was the same thing i traded my front and rear lights with a guy in Florida.
