Ok, i'm all for putting an animal out of its misery if it stands no chance of recovery. I've hunted for all of my life and cannot stand to see an animal suffer. To some that might seem like an oxymoron....and i don't care because those of us that do know exactly what i'm talking about. The officer was doing what he thought was right. In the heat of the moment anyone could have made a mistake. I really don't know why I'm taking the officer's side, I love dogs; but I can also see the human perspective from this incedent. He never had training over whether or not to put an animal out of its misery, he acted on instinct and instinct will carry you a long way. In the freak cases like this people always "whine" compared to the harsher word. But who knows in 90% of the other cases the dog might have suffered for hours before dying.
