i had a project handed to make a cuple of months ago, and now im being asked to hand it in on frieday.

well just wondering what poeple would look for if buying a used car.

I got 6 inspection that need to be done..hears what i got so far..

body- Check the body, paint scratches ( or chips ), dents, or other damages

mechanical-

electrical-Check if blinker lights, high beams, day time running lights work. Also check to see if any dashboard lights are out and test heating, cooling system, cruise control, and stereo

emissions-

interior-

engine-

well if anyone can put down a few other things to check it would be great

look and makes sure none of the carpet and seats are that worn... and do you want average person or someone that knows cars for the engine and mechanical stuff...BTW i like the name even thought i just quit after dipping for 4 years and im working on smoking

lol. yeah iv been tring to quit but it aint working so well..

yeah just some inspection that a person(mechanically inclined person) would check over..

this project is to teach use how to buy a used car, so i guess it would have to be a mechanically inclined person and not just a persone who would say
"It looks good" kick the tire and say "I'll buy it" lol

well i got under my car for about 20 min in the parking before i even thought about buying it, i looked at everything form exhaust, shocks and springs (and everything that goes with these), oil coming from any place you shouldnt see it, the shape of the frame rails, the skid plate on the gas tank to see if there was any wheeling done in it so i could look at the problem place that come from wheeling, breaks (even thought i knew i would put new ones on in a week), cant think of anything else right now im really tired had a long weekend so i need some sleep...it more than likly think of some more

look for gaps in the fenders, rather make sure that gap is uniform everywhere, if it isnt usually indicates the vehicle was crashed and rebuilt, look for the same color on all the parts in the door jambs, etc

mechanically inspect for oil leaks, or any kind of fluid leaks.... listen how the engine runs, if its ticking, thats all bad

drive it, does it run smooth or shudder like crazy? hows the tranny shift, does it rev too high before slamming into gear?

does the owner look shady? sure this might not play a part, but if some guy rolls up in a parking lot and there is a screwdriver in the ignition switch, all you have for him is a number and he wants cash and only wants $500 that probably is all bad

running a carfax is junk, they dont report anything but insurance claims and change of registration
