Door lock/unlock issues.

Hello, I am Roger Stephens from Mesquite, Texas. My Granddaughter has a 1998 Ford Explorer Sport that I purchased for her this year so she would have transportation to and from work.

She is having problems with her door locks.
The electric door unit will lock ans unlock the noramlly. However, we are unable to lock or unlock the doors or hatchback with a key from the outside. We have tryed three different keys and none work. The key did unlock the doors from the outside fine until about two ago. I feel sure someone out there has experenced this and has a good idea on how to fix the problem. Please contact me with any assistance you might be able to provide.

Hello Roger,

we are unable to lock or unlock the doors or hatchback with a key from the outside.

It is very unlikely that all of the exterior door lock cylinders failed mechanically at the same time. Does the remote control key fob still unlock the truck with no problem? The Door unlock relay is probably your problem. I have just posted in a thread dealing with that relay.
