Our 96 5.0 AWD has a driveline rumble at speeds above 55. It has the double cardan type front driveshaft. I have had both drivelines out and balanced, etc to no avail. I read a ford tsb which addressed the problem by installing a different transfer case and front driveline with a cv style u joint at the transfer case. My mother in law has a 97 mountaineer with the cv style shaft and it is smooth. I found a cv style transfer and am looking for a cv style front shaft. Is it all worth it? I have been chasing this rumble for a while and have changed a lot of parts including rebuilding the rear dif.
Thanks in advance. Car has 204,000 miles, we bought it at 183,000 and it has always had the rumble.
