Driving Home, Just Died ....

Driving home, all was fine then all of the sudden the lights dimmed and I saw the alt guage go down. Now its down to around 7-8v it looks lilke. Don't change when I rev the engine. Eventually the battery died and it stalled. Jumped it and it starts but looks the the alt is not charging.

Did the alt just die on me? Or is there something else I need to check first?

/me says altenator. Be sure to charge the battery FULLY before installing a new one.
