Hey fellas,

First off I'm new to the site but I love it already. I've been here for 20 minutes and I'm already learning. I'll be removing any slack from my throttle cable tonight!! LOL.

So I have a 2001 ex sport 4by. K&N FIPK kit on order and a airaid TBS also on route.

I'm currently looking into my options for aftermarket exhaust.

I'd like to go true dual. What are your thought? Any recommended headers or aftermarket cat and/or catback systems? Should I go with a y pipe style? If I find a true dual set up are there any mod's required for the 02 sensor? Are headers really necessary or are the stock manifolds good enough?

It's allot easier to find parts for the sport trac I find than it is the sport model, but I question if the parts are interchangable so long as they are the same year. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance for anyhelp. All opinions appreciated.

Cheers,

FP

Return the throttle body spacer it's worthless. Engine parts will be the same. Exhaust parts will be different since the sport is shorter than the trac. Don't bother with headers the stock manifolds are really good on the sohc motors. To go duals you'll have to go custom, and good exhaust shop can fab it up for you just tell them what you want.

Thanks for the info.

I've been getting very mixed reviews on the throttle body spacer lol. Thats exactly what I wanted to hear about the manifolds.

Any performance cat recommendations?

I havn't done much snooping around to see what the current exhaust orientation is but if I go to dual will just the stock 02 sensor set up do?

Leave the o2 sensors where they are or your computer won't be happy and it will run poorly. For cats any high flow cat should be fine. Also a computer tune will help wake things up a lot. I suggest going through www.hensonperformance.com he'll take great care of you and your tuning needs. He's a vendor here and has tuned a lot of the explorers and mountaineers here.

I too wanted dual exhaust, but found it was gonna cost a bit too much along with possibly losing the spare. I ended up getting a Gibson cat back(not too loud but you can defineitely tell it's there plus some extra hp) and put a 12 inch Gibson tip to cover the exposed tailpipe. Between that and the intake, the only next logical step would be a tune, not much after that, IMO. Besides that Techieman33's advice is pretty sound.

i got dual exhaust on my 01 sport and i still got the spare. I am going to get true dual soon. I got single in and dual out 40 series flows on my sport and i love how it sounds.

But would it sound any different if i get true dual. Plus my tips are 2 1/2 inch tips i was thinkin going bigger like 3 inch tips but dunno yet.

i paid like 590 for my dual exhaust but and for the true dual setup they are quoting me like 650 for it.

Thanks for the info folks. Ima see what I can have done up and I'll keep ya'll posted. Local shop did nice work on my late rx-7, I was already considering them for the catback side of things.

Yea lets see some pics!

Sorry fellas I've been slacking/swamped. No pics as of yet, getting dual exhast quote this week.

Got my intake kit on now,LOVE it.

The throttle body spacer didn't fit in the end. It's for an 01-03 Ranger/Sport trac. I was surprized to say the leas because it's for a 4.0 SOHC, but the spacer doesn't bolt up. Not even close. Unfortunatly I'm in Canada and shiping makes for a not so easy return.

Question,
because I'm in canada I can get away with no cats. What are your thoughts?

Ummmm i'm in Canada....Toronto to be exact and I'm 110% sure you have to have the cats on your truck/car/whatever your driving on the road. My cousin got a nice big fine for not having any cats on his mustang.
