Dual Exhaust, Y pipe, and space

Eventually I'm planning to do something with my exhaust. The plan is a dual in/dual out Flowmaster, but is there enough room for a SI/SO plus a Y pipe to have dual exhaust? Or is a dual out the way to go?

What's the goal?

If your goal is to have the traditional sound of a full dual exhaust V8 system then there must be separation of exhaust bank output from manifold to tailpipe tip. Even if you have a dual in/dual out muffler and separate tailpipes if the muffler doesn't have two separate chambers then the exhaust pulses will be mixed.

With a single in/single out muffler I can't think of any performance improvement of dual tailpipes over a single tailpipe of adequate diameter. Unless there is a significant length difference in the tailpipes on a single outlet muffler the output sound of the two tailpipes will be identical. Two tailpipes will just take up more space and weigh more than one. If your goal is just looks its not worth the cost, weight and space penalties.
 






Ending goal is a good sound and good look.

I wouldn't think there would be a lot of extra weight from the one extra pipe?
 






Who makes a 2 in 1 out muffler?

I've seen plenty of 2 in 2 out and 1 in 2 out but no 2 in 1 out.

The stock muffler on my Sport was a dual in/single out. All of the Magnaflow single in/dual out mufflers are reversible.

I have a Magnaflow on mine. It's a little quiet for my taste though. I may have to get one of their louder ones.
 






If the goal is "good sound" you will be disappointed until you address the issue of the driver side bank tube being 5 feet longer than the passenger side, ( from engine to bumper). Impossible to tune 2 tubes with that much length difference. ;)

Well that would make for an interesting looking passenger side tube trying to make that equal. haha
 






Good sound is all in the ear holder ;)

I've watched some clips on YouTube and really like a Flowmaster clip. But I have a Magnaflow sitting in the garage. I'd be tempted to use that and delete the rear 2 cats.

I think I just need to go with a setup and then worry about changing it later.
 






I would avoid the Dynomax muffler, It really doesn't hold up to your expectations, it is not very loud, although it sounds good, when you can hear it. I was expecting a much louder muffler my self. I just ended up going with no muffler, although it sounds good at the top end, lower RPMs result in an exhaust leak sort of sound, which I don't really like, I may have to resort to a magnaflow, or something similar, to get the amount of sound, but make it sound good through the entire rpm range of the engine.

Also from where the flange is at after the cats, to the hanger, you have about 29-30 inches of room to put a muffler, and or a y-pipe setup, and muffler in there.
