According to the dynabeads chart. 36" tall tires, 14.5" wide on a 15 or 16" rim should run 10 ounces.

I have found if I'm running tires known for being out of balance (interco for example) I run an extra few ounces to be safe. Tires that balance well (BFG At's) required less.

BTW, Bent rims won't balance well. Even with the airsoft pellets on the X (33x12.50r15), I had a couple tires that just wouldn't balance. I put the rims on the balancer (without tires) while I'm waiting for my tires to get here and found 1 rim shaped like an egg and another more like a potato chip. No wonder those 2 didn't balance well.

Thanks.one of my tires used barley any weight but the other had so many weights stuck to it that they all fell off in a week.rims are brand new so shouldnt be bent.i think ill run 12oz to be safe and they wont fit through the stems!;(

I've all ready done this,I put 12oz in.from my understanding you can't run wheel weights with beads

I just got a new set of tires.. 33x12.50 r15's BFG KM2's. They are on 15x7 rims for now. 2 of the rims are bent and those tires do not balance, even with the beads. The other 2 tires did balance (straight rims).

By balance, I mean they don't shake.. You can't test it on a spin balancer.

I put in about 12 ounces, and 2 tires are smooth, 2 aren't.. IF the starts are aligned, My new rims will be here today and I'll be able to see how smooth it is with straight 15x8 rims.

Ah ok...well I am going to try taking off the weights today after work and see how it goes...will post up what happens. How are they working for you?

Took wheel weights off and drove it to work today.

Very very smooth under 50-55.

Once I get over 55 a get an intermittent side to side vibration in the steering wheel. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't. It also seems to vary in how much "back and forth" there is. Almost like a harmonic thing in the front suspension. Hard to tell sometimes if it's caused by the road surface...95 up here in northern VA has a lot of cracks and bumps.

It's still better than when the weights were on there though. I wonder what could cause the side to side motion...lateral imbalance? If that were the case, wouldn't it do it all the time?

Do they even make steering stabilizers for your truck??

The bent rims on our X caused a very bad shake at 45mph, but only at 45. Above 45 to 65 (highest I drive the X now) was less bad and more of a vibration that would come/go. Below 45 was smooth.

This is one of the rims. You can really see its bent.. and the beads couldn't fix that.

Could be a wheel...but they did it when they were new and even after rotating front wheels to rear. I have not yet taken them to a place with a roadforce balancer so I will do that in a few weeks after I get back from a trip for work.

Thats about 12 ounces in 33x12.50 BFG KM2's on 15x8 rims..

once you run them, wheel weights are a non issue,

i ran them in my 35's, and will never have wheel weights ever again,

So.. are you telling me the air soft BB's actually work? I have MILLIONS of these suckers pilled up at my parent's house.. I need to market them as "wheel balancers" on ebay... :p:

I might give this a go this weekend..

Yes, they work. been using them for almost 200k miles now.. Only time they didn't work well was when I had 2 bent rims, and they were on the front of the X. Even static, lead weights didn't work then.

One more question.. I have no access to a bead tool, or any type of tire-mounting machine.

Any thoughts one how to knock a tire off the bead?
(and keep the tire in decent shape)

Take out the valve core, then take another truck and drive over the rubber part of tire. .that will break the bead. Now pour in the beads and use a good air compressor to fill it. Or, if you feel adventuresome, use starter fluid to reset the bead.

I've got some HD valve stems put in by my 4x4 shop, hardest part is probably going to be figuring out how to get the cores out. errgg

Thanks Mark!

Just get a valve core tool.. You find them all over the place.. I think I even got one from ace hardware once.
