Try this filter changing trick.... first loosen the filter with a filter wrench, then slip a gallon size zip lock bag over the filter and unscrew. Not a drop is spilled, not a drop on the garage floor. It works,,,

Good luck

if you dont change youre oil till after 10K or more you must be frieken crazy. i know some oil companys say they will last till 6K but daaaaaang.

if you do ANY kind of wheeling

dont yall like gettin dirty. whats up with this plug adaptor thing. just get oil on your hands for goodness sakes. its turns the women on.

Funny then, why does Amsoil suggest a 12 month /25k interval?

I do not.

No, I do not like to get oil all over me or my garage floor.

No, I have never know any lady that turned on by motor oil on my hands; nor do I ever want to meet one. Thanks anyway,

I would go crazy if i Didn't change my oil every 3000 miles. I don't care what the manufacturer of the oil says. The 3000 mile change gives me piece of mind. If I were to ever decide to go to a longer change interval I would begin getting oil analyses done so that I could still have piece of mind.

How much do you drive? How long does it take you to get 3k miles?

2 - 3 months for 3000 miles

Do a search, Aldive is right, we had members do an oil analysis, they were right on. Changing your filter is all that is needed for a quality synthetic oil. Plus, the 3000 rule goes back to the days of carburated open air engines. Todays engines are much more cleaner and effiecient. Do the research.

"This isn't your daddy's oil."

Thanks alot Al I will have to try that:)

Sorry the slip away from the subject but it takes me about 6 months to get 3000 miles and its kind of weird but I know when its getting close becase my oil pressure needle sits a little lower than usual.I know the oil pressure guage just measures if there is pressure and not really how much.

It would be great if they made one of these for the manual transmission as well. Are you listening Fram? Where could I write to see if they would make one?

It should be rather simple to make yourself. Just get a fitting that fits your tranny and some adaptors and use the fram hose.

Goof luck.....

Goof luck.....

A Freudian slip? :) But I do agree..something is bound to go wrong. :)

I'll take a look this week. Thanks!

Dont you just wanna know that you have fresh oil. Its not a matter of how cars these days are made or what the manufacturer says. id rather be drivin around with 3000 mile oil than 10000 anytime. just my thoughts though i guess

sorry aldive. i guess im just he redneck type of guy who likes a girl who can change a turn signal light and not just drive to the grocery store.

if someone could come up with something to keep the filter removal from being so damn messy, that would be cool

I found a 2 liter bottle works quite well. Take a empty 2 liter bottle and trim it down to about the same length as your filter (FL-1A). Loosen the filter with a wrench and then slip the "bucket" over the filter. The bottle is flexible enough to sqeeze the filter and loosen it the rest of the way, until the filter falls into the bottle. All oil is then caught in the bottle. It is also reusable, just keep it with your oil change supplies.

Give it try and let me know what you think.

With the hose in the Fram kit, the oil drain procedure in a no mess one, the hose can direct the spent oil into your catch container.. I purchased mine at Wal-Mart for about $10.

I wonder if you can buy just one kit and then just buy the different drain plug adapters? It would be cheaper since I have 4 vehicles and I dont see the need in buying 4 kits and ending up with 4 hoses.

fram drain valve

where do I get one of those drain valves? Will It fit 2002 XLS?

I got mine at Wallmart.

Good luck......

changed the oil and filter in my 92 today in fact....regarding the mess made by remving the filter. What I do is unscrew the filter a bit of the way then take a punch and tap it with a hammer at the bottom of the filter until the oil drains out. That way, when you take the filter off the rest of the way, you have little to no mess.

good luck
