eec self test port

maybe im stupid or something but i have been reading countless thread about how to check codes but none of them actuall tell me where to find the port i have been looking under the hood of my 01 sport and cant see anything. can someone tell me where it might be if feel like and idiot for asking. the only port i see is the one under the dash

Which diagnostic port are you looking for? To my knowledge, when they switched to EEC-V/OBD-2, all of the diagnostic information is accessed through the port under the dash. The diagnostic port for EEC-IV/OBD-1 ('95 and earlier) was under the hood (passenger side for 1st gen Explorers, driver's side for '95's), but your '01 will be EEC-V/OBD-2.

yeah thats what i just figured out, i guess to read the hidden codes if any i will have to get a scanner with that live engine monitoring, just looking to see if i can find something as to why i have been getting crappy gas mileage in the past few years. i was thinking some bad o2 sensors
