EGR question

I am getting a p0401 code. Does the egr need to be replaced or does it just need cleaned?

I had the same code recently on my 06 4.0. Bought the Motorcraft Cx2102 egr valve from rockauto and that fixed it. it's $105 right now. New valve isnt guaranteed to fix it, but I decided that trying a new valve first was worth it for me.
