Will this fan setup work with the 16" 1950 cfm for a '98 SOHC? http://www.autoanything.com/coolers/65A5744A0A0.aspx I am ready to buy one of these, but i am not completely sure that the mounting hardware will be the correct one for this motor. i also realize that i will need to buy the wiring harness for this fan too.

Thanks!

Thats a nice fan, but you still need a controller. The controller is going to run any where from $150 to $250 depending whose controller you use. For the SOHC V6 you are probably better off picking up a fan from a junk yard off of a Taurus or Contour. The taurus fan is a single and the contour is a is a dual. I say this from experience as I have been running a contour fan for over a year now with absolutely no problems at all. I personally think the OEM units are more durable than the after market ones. Type in electric fan conversion in the search and you'll come up with quite a bit of info. You can see some pics of my setup on some of the posts or just PM me and I'll send them to you. The dual fan setups have lower start up current spikes than the big single fans as well. Just food for thought.

for a controler i used the one you can get at advanced auto and 2 rolls of 10gauge wire. than i got a 80 amp relay off ebay and put the two together. cost of about $40 and it runs my tbird fan. about 3000 cfm on high

Im currently in the process of installing a tbird fan in mine (The fan is installed, waiting on the DCC controller to arrive). While I have not been able to use mine yet, I would recommend you consider it based on my research. There is an ebay seller who has them brand new for only 75 bucks to-the-door, and they will flow a ton of air.

Is there any reason you're interested in this fan over the Ford 2 speed fans?

I'm with lars on this, the relay set up is hard on your electrical system. I use the DC controls unit because of the soft start and the variable seed function. I have also used the Painless Wiring controller but I like the DC controls unit much better. I'm not familiar with the T Bird fan, is it a single 2 speed unit? I used the dual 2 speed fan from a ford Contour. It pulls approximately 3500 cfm and with the dual motors they fall above and below the water pump so there is no clearance issues at all.

i wouldn't have mounted it right on the rails like that, the vibrations from the fan can wear through them and cause leaks down the roads

Well it's technically not mounted right to the rails, on the bottom its in the old shroud mounts with a slight bend in the mounts to take the weight off of the radiator core. And the top is mounted to the top support. I've had it off a couple of times and I didn't see any signs of wear at all. The after market fans actually use clips that go through the rad core to secure it. Definitely did not want to go that route. That was a thought at the beginning, hence my "semi floating" mount. I am keeping an eye on it though. Good heads up.

:salute:

Yes the t bird is a single fan, 2speed. It looks like the Mark viii but i think its one inch smaller in diameter (same blade shape though). The fan motor and the water pump are centered to each other in my sohc with 1/4"-1/2" to spare (You could mount it upside-down and offset the two by a little bit if you wanted). This required only 1/2" trim around the tbird shroud (would trim an extra 1/8" inch in hindsight though). Also my mounts are similar to Albi1's on the top (with an added reinforcement bar spanning the radiator). On the bottom I mounted it to the equivalent crossmember that extends across the bottom of the radiator, using 1-3/4" 2x4 brackets from the local hardware store. It was a really nice fit actually.

Do you in fact notice any vibration or wear using the rail style mounts Albi1? Do you have any mounting on the bottom?
EDIT: Question was answered while I was writing my post. Feel free to disregard this^

You all are lucky, the sohc has a bigger radiator than the first gens and still have more room but require more cfm/cooling.i run a hhr fan

No vibration at all. I had actually picked up a taurus fan first. But when I got it home and tested it there was a short in the motor. So I went back to the u-pull it to look for another one. I found the contour fan by accident. I opened the hood on what I thought was a taurus and the radiator was already gone and the fan was just sitting there, and when I pulled it out it was a dual fan. Light bulb came on "wrong car!" But it was almost the same size, only thinner so I decided to try it. It fit with no trimming at all. And almost a year and a half later still no problems. With the DC controller set up it runs perfect, never gotten over 205 degrees on the hottest summer day. And no, there are no mounts on the very bottom only the 2 brackets in the pics. They are about 3/4 to 7/8 down on the sides and the whole mount is super stable.

Even better than the Taurus or Mark VIII fan is the Lincoln Continental dual fan. It has a 15" and a 12" connected together. Runs dual speed through one three wire connector to the larger fan or you can cut the wires and hook the fans up separately, using the smaller fan as a single speed.
