Engine Barely Runs - Timing Chain?

The saga of the FPR ends: After reading some other posts in this forum, I decided to drive the Explorer to see if the smoke cleared up, as it had for some others. It did! After getting it up to normal operating temp., tailpipe emissions are clear -- normal -- and the Explorer drives as it did before the FPR went kablooey. Dang, the new FPR didn't fix the clutch <grin>.

Before driving, I changed the oil. I reckon there was a quart of gas in it. I'll change it again soon. And get a new clutch.

I wonder if the ethanol in the fuel in Oregon (E10) had anything to do with the FPR diaphragm's demise? And I wonder if the FPR failure wasn't caused by some other problem. Well, time will tell.

So that was it, the FPR. And you folks led me to the solution. I'm grateful. Thanks!
