Where is the engine block coolant drain plug on a 97 5.0? Manual calls for draining to install lower intake gasket, but does not clearly indicate location of plug. Thx, Mark

P.S. Is there a better way? Like drain radiator cold, then run engine till it kicks water out of block into rad when engine warms?

I have the similiar question. Is there engine drain block for 98 5.0L?

I don't think there is one. If there is I never heard of it. Pull the lower hose and let it drain into a bucket.

All you need to do is use the drain integrated into the passenger side bottom of the radiator. Loosen the hex plug and fluid will drain from the nipple on the bottom. The block will drain down low enough to change intake gaskets. Some may still be sitting in front of the thermostat, but it will be a small amount.

Under number 1 and number 8. 1/4” drive to remove. Heat and reseal the threads

There is actually a threaded plug close to the passenger side motor mount. I usually take it out and replace it with a petcock. But yes, you can also drain using drain on radiator or removing the lower hose.
