Have an 02 XLT w/2.3L, 64K mi. Engine misses in park if you rev up to 2500 RPM. Driving and under load runs great. Ideas?

Might be your rev limiter

-Drew

Thanks Drew...is it an easy fix?

do ya really think the rev limiter would be at 2500 rpms?!?! very well could be but that number just seems a bit low to be a rev limiter... sure as heck sounds like a rev limiter keep us posted on what ya find out :)

Don't know what it was...but cleared up on its own...

so now you can rev 2500 and up in park and its all good?

2500 should be wayyyyyyyyyy to low for the rev limiter to be kicking in

Well, I think you are misunderstanding what he means by rev limiter. Assuming this is an automatic, Ford started rev limiting the engine differently when in park or neutral then when in drive.

There are a lot of reasons they did this, but the biggest reason I can see is to prevent tranny nukings due to tranny drops (revving it up in neutral and dropping it into gear to spin the tires). I had the exact same thing on my 2001 4.0L Ranger w/ AT. They don't put this on the manual transmission vehicles though. And, it can be removed via a chip.
