Lately my 99 Explorer had started to overheat quite drastically.

I have recently replaced the coolant in the car and since then the issue has gotten worst.

The car idles fine and takes about 20 minutes to reach normal operating temp. Once the thermostat opens the temp goes up quite radically, and the pressure jumps up in the cooling system, which forces the coolant out of the radiator into the overflow tank, to the point where it fills and leaks out. Has anyone experienced something similar, and have an idea in terms of diagnosing and repairing the issue?

I have tried purging the system of air, and and checked the system for any external leaks.

I say check your water pump if it is spinning and functioning right. My 2000 ohv V6 did the same thing however the tensioner pully went bad and caused my water pump to stop spinning, causing it to overheat and blow coolant from the overflow tank. The radiator could be bad too but I don't know how to check that. Hope this helps.
