Engine sputters when driving thru puddles

When I drive through any water with any speed, my truck sputters like there is water in the distributor cap.There is no distributor cap!I have a 3' BL but I have put in new innerfenders, and I have a drilled airbox.My bro has the same truck, but it does not happen to him.Any Ideas?

I never had this problem, but there are different dynamics involved when your splashing thru puddles. I suggest you make or buy some inner fender guards and that will really help plus keep a lot of debri out of the engine compartment. I made mine out of old conveyer belt material.

Got inner fenders...better than the factory ones...my bro does not and he has no problems

Check to see if any water is in the air box ... Maybe it's just the angle of the dangle and water is getting into the system ....

Always check the simple stuff first ....

When you say it sputters, do you loose power? Make sure your entire intake assembly is tight, no loose clamps.

I think what he meant was to check to see if there is water in the box right after you hit a puddle.

When you say puddle to you mean on the road or huge nasty mud hole puddles?

My old EB used to do this when I went through large puddles fast. For me it was a matter of the crankshaft sensor getting wet, so the timing would lose track of the crack briefly. It would only last a few seconds usually. I am not sure if this is your case tho.

hmmm, i am having the same exact problem right now, when this happens to me, I shut it off then turn it back on, depending on how wet it is it will usually run normal when i turn it back on. but if its really wet that won't even work...

this even happens to me when i wash it

btw i have a 3" bl as well

My brother also has a drilled airbox and no problems...I'm gonna switch airboxes with him and see what happens...hafta wait a while, it's way below freezing.And I'll check my clamps

My 95 used to do it when i would go throgh anything more then a 1 foot deep puddle.

Fix: I lowered it
