Hi All,

I have a '99 XLT with a 4.0 SOHC. It's just about to reach 100K. I'm not too sure how it was treated before me, but I've had it for a little over a year and a half now. I've had the oil changed once, new air filter, and new spark plugs/ wires. About a week ago, I was backing out my spot at work and it stalled on me. Kind of acted funny when I tried starting it backup again.

Today, I was coming home for lunch and was stuck in a bit of traffic. I forget what I did - either pump the brake or let off - and the truck lurched forward a bit then stalled.

It seems like the normal idle is 500 RPM. But at those RPM, this thing is rough and sounds like a smoker's cough. I've put some fuel injector cleaner in there previously, (maybe 5 times since I've owned it), but am wondering if there's something else I should be doing. I'm contemplating getting a 3rd Generation so I'm not too sure how much of a complete overhaul/tune-up I want to give it. But I do want it to be reliable. I bought some Seafoam but I can't imagine it will just be that simple.

Any thoughts what's going on?

Thanks

check engine on by chance if not than is the bulb good

Thanks for the reply joat. But since this rough[er] idle began, the Check Engine light hasn't come on. When I started the truck up, it did come on briefly when all the light illuminate.

I would check/clean/search your IAC valve.

Thank you! I searched for "IAC Valve" and came across this thread. I was half-tempted to just clean it, but after reading all 8 pages, I bought a new one from RockAuto with a gasket. I did 2-day express so we'll see. This thing just sounds horrible. :(

Thanks again and I'll post after I install the new one!
