We got a free night at the Ameristar, so we're turning it into a small adventure...

First time messing with the Bureau of Land Management site.. wish I'd known about it before!

Then we got to the Ameristar to get our free room, and got a free suite upgrade! Lucky us!

Ya, talk about lucky! Icing on the cake was we actually won a little in the casino!

Thanks LONO! I love actually using it out there! My girlfriend has never been offroad much and gets freaked out on the smallest of obstacles, so I have to keep telling her to not get scared unless I start getting scared.. Lolol gotta graduate her through trail difficulty

Hm... tell you what, why don't we work out some time for your gf to go wheeling with my wife? That way they don't feel intimidated by the sheer level of testosterone that we tend to pump out when we go wheeling. And she'll have someone to talk to that isn't so much a Coach, but more a compadre.

(as an aside, my wife hasn't done extensive wheeling, but she rolls with a 2006 TJ Rubicon that has dual lockers and a 4:1 transfer case)

That section just off the Columbine Campground Road (north side of map) and then there's a fork in 739.1 that rejoins- I went up the northern side last summer while camping at the Columbine Campground. I didn't really go that far in because I didn't really know where anything went and some guys on ATVs said that there are tons of trails back in there and it could be easy to get lost.

And then I tried to go up Yankee Hill, which is in this area but I'm not finding it on the map, in February but my Explorer buried itself in the snow.

Turns out I wasn't on the BLM Site, like I thought I had been - I believe I got my information from the popular StaytheTrail.com site. You can go here, and there's a big list of maps available - I chose the one that is closest to Blackhawk, since that's where I was going . then, you can read about the area, and get a larger , high res map on the right hand side of the screen

from there, you can just zoom in on the map, and start planning your route!! These trails aren't very 'hardcore' but they're nice to get out away from civilization, even if it is just for a cruise in the mountains

My g/f and I stayed at the Ameristar in Blackhawk. What a nice place. After walking to other casinos, we were more than happy with the choice. The others seemed outdated, or dumps. We stayed on the floor that was two floors from the top. The floor above us was all for the equipment needed for the pools and hot tubs that were on the top floor.

I did enjoy the complimentary Crown and Cokes in the casino

The Timberline Grill restaurant in there was excellent

Heck yeah, the place stays super clean, compared to the neighboring casinos which have all been there forever and are just dirty. We never leave Ameristar when we go, really.

HAven't tried Timberline, but will on your suggestion the next time we visit!

I had the Grilled Pork Chops with Apple relish and rosemary jus, with White Cheddar Mac & Cheese. The pork chops were cooked to perfection. NOT dry

My g/f got Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes as her side. Those were very good. She might have got the Chicken Fried Steak, but it was okay, if I remember right. Pry better choices on the menu.

We planned to do their Centennial Buffet, but the line usually long or not moving. When the line was at it's shortest, it was almost their closing time. I was not going to pay the buffet price, and get choices that were low, out, or old since they might not stock things that close to closing.

I thought it was funny, I think at the Lodge Casino, seeing people eating Pho noodles at the casino tables, off small tables sitting right behind them to their left or right.
