Good night
My 1994 5 speed manual had a leak in the exhaust manifold on the driver's side since I bought it.
Apart from the ugly sound when I accelerate it, would it have any consequences on the engine health, efficiency or fuel consumption?
Thanks for your opinions!

Do not understand why this question came up?
Please fix the leak (maybe only blown gasket) and everything is fine.
If you have no time or other reason it is fine too.
Every car part that operate not as suggested will affect something.
The leak will affect the O2 Sensor and so on...

Came up to learn.
Mine doesn't have O2 sensors, just a ford plug in place of sensor connector.
In the exhaust it has a bolt in place of sensor. Came this way from factory.
Do you have fix a gasket or bent manifold passenger side? it's a difficult task? i've never done that before.
thanks

Never did a exhaust manifold fix on a 94 Explorer, on my 97 i did it several times.
At both sides it is difficult to loosen the 4 exhaust flange bolts without sheering them off.
At both sides sometimes the header bolts/nuts won't came off easy.
At the driver side it's nearly impossible to get the header out with the EGR tube still installed (94?).
But it's possible to get the header off so there's enough space to put a new gasket behind.

it's a difficult task?
It is not so difficult if bolts/nuts don't hate you and you "only" want to change the gaskets.
Changing headers is more time-consuming, especialy if the studs brake. To avoid this
some heat could gain you success to brake off the rusty connections.
Sometimes it's better to first tighten the nuts a very small amount and then loose them
a little bit, back and forth untill the rust is cracked.
If a stud came out with the nut it's ok, but you did not brake it.

Came up to learn.
Sorry for the lack of my understanding, this forum is the number one worldwide,
better than any repair manual. I am shure someone else will answer your question
more satisfactorily as i can do.

good luck and regards, thumbs up!

I have a similar leak, both sides were cracked, was able to get a new pass side manifold from rockauto i think. But driver's side, i was not able to find a new part with EGR provisions.

Thanks for your comment. Mine has not EGR so i've not that problem....

I've seen a video with the tighten tip, thanks! seems to be the way to approach it.

has been tough to take apart the pass side manifold? or just patience? how about the corroded bolts?

Difficult job to repair. My exhaust manifold has been making noise for a while now, but I'm going to ride it out till the end this way. I've given Mounty a new nickname...Ticky.
