I'm preparing to put my 97 SOHC engine back into my truck after having it out to replace the timing chains. I just want to be sure that there is no sort of gasket that should go between the manifold and the downpipe. I wouldn't think so because the setup looks like a flared fitting and there didn't seem to be any trace of what might be considered a gasket. If someone can confirm or correct my thoughts, please do.

Also, I had an exhaust leak on the passenger side right at the manifold to downpipe connection. Assuming I make a nice clean connection here do you think the leak should be gone. There are no obvious traces of wear on either pipe.

Thanks for any and all help!

Nope, There isn't any gaskets. just make sure you tighten the bolts as evenly as you can.

Take one of those wire wheel drill attachments and run it around the connection before putting it back together to break off any rust clumps that might prevent a tight seal.
