hey guys hows it goin? well i have a bit of a dilema. for some strange reason, the upgrade bug just bit me again and i reeally want to get an exhaust kit for my car. i went to the Truck Performance Center website and they carry a gibson cat-back system for my '98 Explorer 5.0L and if you own a 5.0 explorer you would understand that it is nearly impossible to find any aftermarket equipment. i recently discovered the newly restocked explorerexpress.com. they offer a catback system, but they dont specify what brand it is and its just a bit too expensive. back to my original question. as i am searchin TruckPerformance's website, i come across the catback for my 5.0. but there are two options that basically i can choose from other than aluminum vs. stainless steel. my muffler is a dual inlet single outlet but i am jsut wonderin what the FLANGE thingy-ma bobber is refering to. its either a dual inlet 3 bolt FLANGE or a dual inlet slip FLANGE.. WHAT THE HECK IS A FLANGE??? someone un-confuse me. i reealy want to get this catback. i have only heard good things bout Gibson. thanks for your time

here's a link to the website.

If I had a explorer with the 5.0 in it, I would buy a 2 chamber flowmaster bring it to a exhaust shop and have them custom bent the pipes for a rear exit like the borla system. But thats just me. Check this website out, i believe they are selling borla cat-back for the 5.0 for $250. Click on ford perfomance parts. Then on the top click on parts then Great Deals.

Dude, visit some muffler shops in your area. Tell them what they are looking for and they can probably put in a much better system for less cash. Plus they will custom bend and weld the pipes all together instead of this bolt together non-sense. Also if you don't like it you can go back and they can change it. Some shops will even mount up a muffler and let you listen before you buy.

Gotta agree with Ryan. Local shops usually can do a great job for less. If you plan on keeping youe X for ever the stainless system would be the way to go.
Me, I dont plan that far ahead.

I believe the Explorer Express system is a Magnaflow. The Gibson system has (1) 2 1/2" tailpipe; kinda dinky for a V8.

The Flowmaster setup cost me $250 installed.
