First of all, could anyone direct me to some pictures of dual exhaust setups on 2nd Gen. Explorer Sports. I would like some good pictures of the routing on the driver's side. I would like to get my X some a nice dual exhaust setup but can't really picture how it's all going to route through. I hear that I can route it with the exhaust easily avoiding around the spare and fuel and brake lines.

Secondly, has anyone done any set exit exhausts on either Sports or 4 dr. with the exhaust exiting before the rear wheels? I'm considering this as an option also, and would appreciate any comments, and/or pictures of that. Is it possible to run duals with the exhaust in front of the wheels? Or will it hang too low because of routing around the frame?

Thirdly, I recently put in a KKM, aside from new shocks that I need to get first, is this the next step on the mod list? Or is there something that would be a better mod first? I'm not looking to get a chip at this point.

Any responses would be great, thanks.

Mike

Some good shots of the dual exhaust on a 98 Sport like yours in that thread. You may also want to talk to him about what he did. I would actually say that the next best mod is the exhaust so you can get all of that air coming in to flow out nicely and you can do so by getting rid of that restrictive exhaust. Makes sense. If you have an OHV, I would also reccomend putting in a new throttle body.

Here is another good resource

if you run exits before the rear wheels it is illegal per US DOT standards

I can get you picks of my setup once I get it back. Should be this Tuesday or Wednesday. Mine are run on the inside of the frame rails. It cuts a little close to the spare. But so far has done no damage.

What about the Ford Lightning, doesn't that have exhaust that exits before the rear wheel? Also what about the Dodge Viper? The earlier versions also have side exit exhaust? Is this a new law?

Also, I saw the picture of that X before but didn't notice the pipe that goes to the drivers side. Thanks for pointing me back in the right direction.

Thanks, I would really appreciate some pictures. Your X looks very similar to mine, except I have a '98, same color and everything. It would be nice to get a good idea of how it'll look on mine.

the exhaust has to exit after the passenger compartment. the Lightning is legal since it is after the cab. you could dump the muffler right after the cab on a pickup as long as you dont have a camper shell.

here is how the shop did my drivers side exhaust, but i am a 4-dr and i can also keep my spare under the truck still.

Thanks for the pic. I noticed that I'm getting a small exhaust leak somewhere in the tail, an excuse to get the whole system replaced from the cat back. I'm would like to get a roughly symmetrical piping underneathe. Since I have a new X, I would like to get it to look somewhat good underneathe, rather than a million separate pieces like in my old X. Keep the pictures coming, they are a great help.

Ok, I was able to pull a few pics up from my thread:

Hope that helps!

That's exactly what I want mine to look like. Those pictures are great! How much did that whole setup cost? I need to get a dual in and dual out setup for mine, and was going to go with the Flowmaster 50 series muffler that costs about $140, but how much was the custom bending? Also which muffler did you go with and how is the sound?

How much did that whole setup cost you? Are you able to fit a stock-size spare in there still? I don't have a basket and need my rear cargo space. Is it better to route it around the outide of the shock on the driver's side, or on the inside?

The entire setup was $275. The Muffler is a generic 40 Series. $140 for just the muffler sounds kinda crazy. It'd prolly be cheaper for me to get it for you and send it to ya! If theres any other shots you need let me know, I should have the truck back by Tuesday.

Here's the entire thread on it. You also might want to try searching for Dual Exhaust too!

That's the price that I was given straight from the Flowmaster website. I've found them for cheaper, but none with dual-in/dual-out that I need. How can you get it for cheaper? I've gotten a good idea of how it's going to be set up so far with the pictures I've seen, but it would be nice to see a picture of the driver's side pipe, looking at it from the driver's side looking towards the rear and how it looks when it crosses over. Thanks for the link that was very helpful. I'd like to keep this project under $300 if I can.

Its a Generic 40 series. Its not made by Flowmaster, but it is identical. I'm not sure if they have the other series, but I know they have the 40. I'll get those pics whenever I can!

I got my Flowmaster 50 series SUV was only about $90 from Summit Racing's site. Check there.

Thanks, I found the 50 Series on Summit. I also ended up finding it on another site for $96 but definately will choose the cheaper one. How loud is the 50 series actually? I cut off my muffler on my old X and ran a straight pipe, but don't want it nearly as loud as that on my new one.

Have you checked with any muffler shops to see if they will in fact install the system? Before you go ordering I'd check and make sure. They might even be able to get the muffler for you and save you shipping(but then again theres tax:rolleyes:) Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
