I have a 93 4x4 and I know that I have an exhaust leak from the muffler. I can see the holes. So how do I check the catalytic converter? I look under there and see 2 things that look the same and the book says nothing. so do I have 1 or 2 converters? I have no idea what to look for and need to replace these things before I drive to Wa in two weeks on a tight budget. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Arianna

You should have 1 cat converter. It's oval shaped and is in front of the muffler. If you need a muffler, you will probably have to do the resonator and tail pipe as well.

you most likely have two cat converters. most 93s that i know of have two cats. most of the time the muffler goes bad long before the cats.

You don't need to be concerned with the cats. They rarely fail and when they do you will develope running problems. If you feel they need to be replaced you can have them tested by any reputible exhaust shop.
