Explorers Violated

Hello my fellow explorers....
Last sunday 4/9 I woked up on a snowy day on NYC to attend to a real state seminar, (My wife and I are planning to purchase a home and need as much information as possible)as I approached to my wife's 1999 Mountainner which is parked right in front of my apt, I see that it had been broken into. The front passenger side had been broken and a cellular phone was missing, among other small things. There was no interior damage to the truck. The same day I found out that other trucks in the neighborhood had the same fate. Luckily there are some glass shops open on sunday so I had to cancel going to the seminar and get a new window, $140.
Today, a rainy morning in NYC, I get up to do some shopping for breakfast, go out to drive my explorer and what do I see, my explorer had been broken into, exactly the same way it happen last sunday with the mountainner, this time there was some interior damage done to the truck. I did forget to remove the face plate of my PIONEER 7000R, my receiver trim panel was damaged, they were not able to remove the radio because I installed it with a bracket attached to the rear of the receiver (which was very time consuming). The switch for the 4X4 was also damaged, the lights are not coming on when the $X$ is engaged, I hope is only a short, the fuses will be checked tomorrow. So back to the glass shop another $110.00 for their services. Later I foud out that my truck was not the only one violated, a block away a 1995 Explorer had the same fate. I guess times are changing, I was able to leave my trucks with the windows open, but not anymore. The neighborhood were I reside is a very safe (was, I should say) but Explorers are not.
I will be calling CRUTCHFIELD tomorrow to purchase 2 CrimeStopper CS-9900, I have it in my 1987 Bronco II, and next weekend they will be installed. Right now the trucks are parked in my narrow driveway, and I don't think I'll get much sleep tonight.

Thanks fellow explorers, just had to get this off my chest.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I can't believe they would do it so many times in ther same place. Don't they figure eventually the cops will catch on and wait for them? Also Doesn't the moutaineer have the factory alarm system?

It never ceases to amaze me that some people can have such contempt for other people's property. I can sympathize with you. I know how frustrating it is to find out someone's violated your property. About 4 years ago, when my wife and I lived in an apartment, someone broke into my wife's Escort. They took all 4 wheels and then set the car on the ground. That did a crap load of damage. I don't mind telling you, the next week, we went house shopping.

I can only suggest two things to you;

1, get an alarm for your vehicles and

2, keep looking for that house.

Don't you wish just once you could catch them in the act? But then again, I'm not sure I would exercise a great deal of restraint. I would probably end up getting arrested for beating the daylights out of them with a pitching wedge.

Personaly I think its time car security systems become offensive, something like tazer door handles or seats, and pepper gas spray when started unauthorized.

Sorry to hear about the vandalism, I always hate to hear about people destroying other peoples personal property. Anyhow, it seems we are getting into the issue of alarms. There are two sides. A while back a guy here in Denver went out of town for the week and his alarm started going off and didn't STOP going off until he came back about a week later. Talk about the most annoying noise in the world for about a week straight, I bet the neighbors ears are still ringing. On the other hand, I have an alarm in my Explorer and use it religously, I also had one in my truck and didn't mind shelling out the $200 or whatever it was for the alarm. I get a discount on my insurance and I get piece of mind. It has starter kill so they can break in and steal stuff but as long as the alarm is triggered they won't be able to start the car. Now obviously a professional car thief will be able to find his way around the alarm if he really wanted to, but so what? It keeps away the other 95% of car thieves that just want to take it for a joyride. I know that statistics show that that blinking red light will deter most car thiefs, because its always easier to break into a car without an alarm so unless theres some reason they REALLY want your vehicle most won't waste their time.

I do agree about the alarm systems. In fact, they sell some steering wheel locks that are like that. They crackle blue like a tazer when someone approaches them, unless you deactivate them with a key fob. Seems like it'd work pretty well. I can sympathise also, my wife and I lived in an apartment in College Park, MD for a while after we got married back in 1979. We actually had to stop leaving anything out in our cars. I had a 78 280Z and she had an old Volkswagen Beetle. They'd never do any damage, they'd just slim jim the doors, have at what they wanted and lock back up. Some people.

actually n2knee, my advise is to shoot to kill. Granted make sure you are within your legal limits before doing so, i.e. the gun is registered and you are the legal owner, and this person posed an immediate threat to your personal safety. If you shoot the person in the leg you will have a severe lawsuit on your hand. If you kill em however you might have some guilt but you won't be paying taxes for him to sit in jail, and theres probably a lot less paperwork too.

Another thing am worried about with my explorer with the keyless entry. Heard that it's easy to crack the code from a ford service manuel that is easy to purchase. The only thing got taken from my truck was the PIAA projecter beams, which was just rip off. The housing was made of plastic, therefore there wasn't no way of mounting them again for the vandals. Would love to figure some way of wiring a outside electic-shock protection...to get the vandals, stray cats, and bird's touch and go (Cr@p).

Not to sound too cruel here, but a dead thief cant testify, therefore he cant take the victem stance and go on about how he had a bad life, and no toys when he was a kid, and he realy did'nt mean to hurt you with the gun he had.
Plus he cant rip you ofF a second time and sue you.

I am really sorry to hear about your SUVs and if you want to catch the perpetrators here is my suggestion:

Use your SUV as a bait. Put something in there that is irresistible to steal and leave your doors unlock. Keep on eye on your SUV or, if you're willing to, sleep in your Explorer with a 12 gauge shotgun (registered)and a telephone. Theives are usually deadly when they're trap like a mouse, so you never know when your shotgun might come handy. If it happens, don't kill them though. Just shoot them in their legs. That will disable them and will give you time to call the police.

Sorry for sounding like a violent person, but I am not. I just hate it when lazy people want the easy way to obtain things in life at the expense of hardworking individuals.

Hey I agree with n2knee, I Had a jeep of mine broken into , I know I am soory for the j, word but I have had two jeeps and two explorers , so I am even at least , but anyway , they rolled my jeep down my driveway and stole speakers , cd players , broke a lock box in it and all kinds of stuff, but now I have an alarm on both my trucks, and have a rig off my house alarm, so if my truck is moved it will pull a cord out from under my bumper and will set my house alarm off also , dont see them moving my truck with all that , but better to be safe then sorry, then you can come running out with the 270 and blow there leg off , that will teach them , I hate thieves and what ever I can do to prevent something stolen , I will do it

Once again fellow explorers;

First, I'll like to thank-you for taking your time for your responses. To update you, I just received 2 Crime Guard 745i2 from CRUTCHFIELD, at a price of $199.99 each.

The features on these alarms are: motion sensor (interior and exterior microwave motion sensors which detects motion in/or immediately around the vehicles).
It also has a glass tampering sensor,
2 stage shock sensor (provides a warnig chirp if the vehicle is lightly bumped, and a full siren if it's hard). Starter disable, and Carjack level one/two. I also purchased a harness to match the factory harness so I will not have to splice any wires during the installation.
Once again thanks, and this weekend I will be installing these alarms, maybe I'll even write a step by step instructions of how is done

Well don't feel so bad about 2 months ago my truck was broken into at work in broad daylight. They stole my in alpine tv, and 2 amps plus broke my window everything worth over 1600.00 and I had an alarm, of course did that stop them?
