Extremely loud pop in front drivetrain

Every now and then if I either loose traction or I lift the truck an take tension off the drivetrain then drive and turn, I hear a very loud pop that seems to be from the front diff or CV joint areas.
Is this common on our trucks? What is it?

Very loud doesn't sound normal, but otherwise, yes a sudden and often unexpected pop from the front drivetrain is "normal" when power is shifted to the front wheels. And an un-nerving pop or creaking noise is also normal for hard wheel turns while in 4WD or while making a hard turn and slip is detected. If you hear the noise at about the same time the yellow slip light flashes, you are fine.

It does sometimes happen during a loss of traction. Thats not any kind of damage happening?
