Hi folks... A while ago I saw a post illustrating how to manually bypass the factory amp on the '97 Explorer XLT. Of course I didn't print it at the time. Now I am ready to do it. Does anyone have the color codes. I know I can buy a kit. But I am old school. I still use a scope and soldering iron;)

Scope and a soldering iron is the only way:D (there's another way????:))

If it wasn't night, i'd go out and get the wire colors, but it is in the passenger kick panel. too dark to see out there though :(

Thanks for the response. I should have wrote it down when it was posted. That stuff is so invaluable! I purchased a Pioneer Ford Dash HU, (4) 6x8 door speakers, cargo panel sub 500w sub woofer. But I screwed up. I only purchased a 300 watt amp to push the sub... MISTAKE!!! I didn't want to be too loud & obnoxious. Yet in that, I can't hear the sub at all. So I will be purchasing atleast a 600w max amp.

Oh the reason for the bypass... The 120w factory amp distorts at higher db's. The Pioneer HU pushes more... 200w/4. I am gaining too much distortion at the gate with the factory amp in the way.
