I am trying to install a factory overhead dvd system into my 2004 explorer which never had a dvd system in it. I have the dvd player/mounting bracket and the factory wiring harness all the way up to the radio(all of these were out of a wrecked 2003 mercury mountaineer). I took my radio out and the plugs on the back of my radio do not match. My question is has anyone ever attempted this and if so I would appreciate some advice. do I need to buy a new radio with the proper plugins?

You need the proper head unit. I kinda want to do the same. If mine was built one month later (03/02) it would have had rear a/c and rear dvd. But because its an early build 02 EB (02/02) they weren't available :/

Without the oe head unit, it hasn't been proven possible. I'm still working on it, but am pretty sure the ACP Protocol A&B are going to screw me with my aftermarket head unit
