I have a 96 explorer with a factory premium am/fm cassette. the person who had it before me had a blaupunkt 6 disc cd changer in the armrest console and left it in there. the thing is I think the person took their system out and just put the factory head unit back in b/c there is no way for me to control the cd player from the factory head unit. if I get a head unit from a 96 that comes with the cd controls on it that should solve my problem right? I want to keep the factory look in my explorer rather than put in my sony from my old car, I think it looks nicer.

Well, I am VERY sure that a factory HU that had changer contols would work, and guess what. I happen to have a factory HU w/ Cd Changer controls that i need to sell. I am saving up for a superchip. I am asking $60 plus shipping...tell me if you want it.

I don't think a factory HU would work with Blaupunkt CD changer.

No, it wont work. the factory headunit will not control aftermarket CD changers. if you get a blaupunkt headunit, it will work. or if you get the stock CD changer and stock HU w/ changer controls, that will work.

Really? I though as long as the HU had changer controls, then it would work. Well, ya'll really aren't helping me sell my HU then. Oh well, i was pretty sure it did work. I guess not. I could have sold you the HU and the changer, but i have just parted with the changer to someone on this board. Sorry...

hold on xlt 66, i still might take it. i will buy a stock cd changer somewhere if i have to, like on this board or ebay, i just need to know from someone who has the cd HU and stock 6 disc changer how it sounds. i have excellent speakers and amps and a sub from my last car tha are going into the explorer, I just need to know if the stock stuff will hold its own with my equipment. also thanks for all the replies so fast guy's, that's pretty cool.

how do the factory HU with the 6 disc changers sound. also, what year model HU will fit in my 96. will newer models out of a 2001 or somethin fit?

Wait...does your factory HU come with changer controls? If so, take the rear quarter panel out and check if there're OEM adapter plugs from changer cable to the factory amp. If it's there and plugged in correctly, you should be able to use your changer. On the other hand, if your HU doesn't have changer controls, there're no cables for the factory changer you're thinking of getting. I've gone through this before so that's how I know.

The only factory HU's available for your '96 is a premium deck without changer controls or a premium deck with changer controls. Ford changed the plugs from '98 on so the newer receivers won't work on your truck.

no. it is only a am/fm cassette. no cd changer controls. the thing is the person who had it before me left their blaupunkt 6 disc changer in the armrest console but i have no way to control it. they must have had a good system in it b/c theres monster cables wired from the back all the way to the changer. what do you suggest. i have a awesome system in the acord i'm sellin but i was going to sell the sony cd player i have and keep the factory look of the explorer as long as it sounded good.

I am not sure about your X, but with our 2001 Taurus, it came with the CD changer controls on the radio, but we didn't want to pay the dealer $650 for a CD changer, so we went to Circuit City, and they were able to hook a Sony CD changer to our stock radio. I t might be worth talking to Circuit City or Best Buy first, both sell blaupunkt.

if what your saying is all i have to do is buy a ford head unit with cd controls and circuit city can make it work with the blaupunkt i have then that would be great. i'll have to check into it. i've been asking how does the factory HU sound with your cd changer? i have excellent speakers and amps, subs, etc. that are going in the explorer, i just want to know if the factory HU will holds it's own compared to a aftermarket like the sony cd player i have in my accord.

Yea, that is what i though. People hook up aftermarket changers to their stock HU all the time. The HU i have does have changer controls because i used it to change discs on my stock changer. Lemme know if your interested in getting my HU. The displays all work great, it is a AM/FM/Cassette with Changer controls. I think it would be a great buy.

xlt 66, i'm gonna go to circuit city ASAP and find out from them for sure if they could wire the blaupunkt i have to your factory head unit. if they say no problem, they just have to do some re-wiring or somethin, i'll take your HU in a heartbeat. i'll get back to you real soon.

That sounds great, i had the stock changer and the HU for sale a couple of weeks ago, but someone from this board already bought the changer off of me. If i could get rid of this HU, that would be great. I'll Private Message you about prices.

I hope there's an adapter for your changer b/c Blaupunkt makes some good products. I have a Kenwood changer in my console with my factory HU and it sounds excellent. Well, I guess since I have the Ford/JBL system but I'm sure the Ford's Premium Sound will do just as well.

yea, i had the Premium system in mine....the changer is actually made by Clarion....i was suprised it was a good company like that
