Interested in installing the factory power inverter in my 2015 XLT. I know it’s lacking compared to an aftermarket one(which I have) but I like to tinker and would like to add this option. Has anyone done this yet?

I tried doing a search but it came up negative. I’m currently waiting for the parts to come in and will be making happen shortly. If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the Forum.
I don't believe this install has been attempted yet. It requires a 40A cartridge fuse according to the Manual. Good luck.

I appreciate the welcome. Once I piece everything together I’ll be attempting it. I’m curious as to see how much of the wiring is already present and what’s missing. I’ll have to check the fuse box and see if there’s even a spot for it there. If anyone has a limited that they’d like to take apart and show me how the thing is wired I’d appreciate it :)

Quick update. I’ve arranged to buy the back console panel, wiring harness, and the inverter itself. Should be here soon and then I will attempt the install. It’s my understanding that the factory inverter is near the A pillar, behind the glovebox. The question is, is there an existing wiring harness behind the glovebox in the XLT?. Will be starting the install soon. Stay tuned.

What year Explorer were those part from? It seems that some 2017, in particular, had issues with the power inverter creating a high pitched noise. See thi thread starting at post 33 and onward. Just FYI.

These are coming from a 2014 Sport. I’ll have to look into the whine issue you are talking about. Is it mostly isolated to the later models or are the Pre 2017 models having issues too?

Would you happen to have the parts numbers of that which you bought?

As soon as I get them in, I will absolutely post the part numbers for everyone. I plan to do a detailed write up with pictures as well.

I ordered them used so I don’t have the numbers readily available yet.

Oh fabulous, thank you, it's very much appreciated!

Rhino, what year is your explorer? I found this for the 2011-2015 looking on Ebay.

Its a 17. I haven't looked too much into doing this mod yet, but it is on the list, so I will have to check compatibility. Thank you!
I don’t think there’s too much difference really. As we speak, I’m looking under the glove box for the factory connector to the inverter.

Updates:
While waiting for the inverter parts to come, I went ahead and took out the glove box, pull up the carpet, and took the plastic off. As it looks right now, there is no prewired plug for the inverter. It is all ties into the large wiring harness here. Once I get my hands on the inverter wiring harness, I’ll do some matching and see what I can come up with. If anyone with a factory inverter gets bored, feel free to take some pics of what you have.

This is where the wiring is. I have it on good authority that the inverter is plugged into this bundle via a connector that would come from this one large one. Obviously the XLT does not have this plug in place, which means I will probably be adding pins.
