Would anyone know if factory rear spoilers fit all year Xs? I came across one, part number F85Z-78500K16-AAA. From the number I'd say it's for the 98-01s, but was wondering if would work on a 95-97. I did searching but didn't really find an answer.

I have the 98-01 on my Ex. The 95-97 is in fact different because of the different dimensions of the rear hatch. It's subtle, but different. After installing the spolier, I know the it's pretty much spec'd for the years it says. It fits the contour of the body/hatch pretty closely.

I bought mine from a seller on eBay (bonesenterprises?), and they often have them for 95-97 too.

That part #F85Z-78500K16-AAA is for an expedition. ford never made a oem spoiler. Not for 1995-2001 explorers. Not that I know of.The part# is easy to read. F=90's 8=1998 5=epedition Z=ford.
For example, F67Z is 1996 explorer,F77Z is 1997 explorer so on and so on.

I've got an OEM spoiler on my 2000 Sport. The seller on eBay who I bought it from has many more, including this Dead Link Removed

Here's mine:

So were these ever installed from the factory, or just an extra that could be added on?

These are dealer installed options. I had one put on a brand new '97 once. It was included in the price of the Ex, but dealer staff installed it just before I picked it up.

is it just for looks, or does it help keep that nasty snow/rain from blowing straight down on your rear windshield?? I kinda like the look of the one you have

They claim it changes the wind direction around the hatch, but I haven't noticed much. To me, it's more cosmetic that anything.

One thing you have to be certain about is that if you buy this unit, you don't plan on removing it. It's a permanent install. Some significant holes get drilled in the hatch. They give you a paper template you tape to the hatch to position said holes. It fastens on solidly, and is going nowhere. I considered going with a Lund Windjammer because you can mount with double sided tape, but everyone seems to go for those and I actually preferred the look of the OEM unit. It's built well (heavier than I thought it would be), and mine came primed for painting. I got some Dupli-Color matched to my paint, put a few coats of that one followed by a few coats of clear coat. Needs a little bit of wet sanding, but I haven't got around to that yet. Looks fine, even though there are some imperfections that I created on the install.

could you possibly get some other angles of this like profiled and from the back like if you were a car sitting behind your car at a redlight n such, I'm really interested in this, and did the guy you got it from on ebay paint it for you? I've seen sellers like that or did u have to paint yoruself?

I don't think I have any shots directly from behind. My Ex is so dirty right now, I wouldn't dare post any shots.

EDIT: I lied. I found one:

Re-read my post above yours. I tell you how I painted it.

Bonesenterprises also sells some that are painted, mostly toredor reds and oxford whites, as well as the primered ones. I'm holding out for a medium wedgewood blue, simply because I do not trust my painting skills at all! LOL

I've never seen medium wedgewood at Bones. In fact, that colour is pretty rare when it comes down to it. I have a heckuva time finding it in Dupli-Color. Most places don't carry it.

Yeah I know, it's a PITA.
I've talked with the people at bones probably 6 times, and continue to do so every few months or so, just to ask if they have or might get one in my color, but they never have any. :(

I tell ya, I didn't have a lot of confidence in my painting abilities either. Follow the directions on the can and you'll be surprised what you'll end up with. Dupli-color has a good website too and they probably have some pointers. The job I did wasn't perfect, but it's definitely presentable. Dupli-color does have an exact match for our colour too. If you screw it up, you can always sand it off and start again. ;)

you forgot one thing celly....PATIENCE, if you try to rush painting stuff, especially soemthing on the exterior it'll look like ****, my friend painted the interior of his car....and tried putting it all in 3 hours later needless to say it was smudge city, I have faith in you doing a decent job 2. i say go for it...

I'm pretty impatient. That's why my spoiler isn't perfect. Same with my tinted tails. I actually did two sets. The first ones were too dark and had lots of imperfections because of impatience.

Good advice.
