FIPK's....where are they?

So I'm looking at the pre/post pictures on this topic and my airbox on the 2001 is a dead ringer. What can the possible differences be between '97-'01? I'll email K&N (again)and post their reply here.

FIPK for 00 sport

Looks the same as the 97. So maybe the 97 FIPK will fit after all....

I might just order

Hey guys.. I was thinking.. do the K&N FIPK just dont fit the early explorers.. or are they just not legal? Hmmm... Also, being as bored as I am...I think Im going to build a heat shield for my KKM and maybe even a cold air snorkle... Sounds like a fun day to me! :) Im going to even try and seal it against the hood... for now its just going to be made of plastic or whatever I can find at the hardware store... and then later Ill put some of that heat shielding stuff...

The 95-up K&N FIPK's just remove the outer cover that covers the flow sensor and the restrictive inflow. No emissions components are removed. I don't know what is different in the 94 and under stock intakes. But the 95 and up's come with an emissions sticker which states that the FIPK is emissions certified.

The cheapest K&N FIPK I found was at http://www.truckperformance.com Much cheaper than anywhere else I saw it. PS, Sounds good too!

jwild, I have searched that site and do not see a K&N FIPK for and Explorer. All I see is a drop in air charger. Could you give me a specific page to go to? Thanks.

I went to the hardware store the other day... looking for stuff to make a heat shield out of and a cool ait intake... I found some flexible plastic and metal tubing... however they were all out of the 4 inch plastic tubing... I thought I coult make sort of a scoop from under the bumper and have the hose go up to the air filter.. hmmm...

Goober,
You're right, they only have 95 and up FIPK's available at truckperformance.com. But, I have emailed K&N with a link to this thread to suggest that there is a large market for an FIPK for 91-94's, and to ask if they make one already. I'll post the reply when I get it.

Good idea. Who knows. Maybe someone at K&N will listen. I know tons of people with 94 and earlier explorers (you know... all the cool people) that want one.

Here's the news from K&N

Dear customer,
We currently do not make an intake kit for your application. We do make a high flow, reusable filter to fit the stock airbox. It is part# 33-2024 with an msrp of $52.43. It will give you a 2 - 4 % horsepower increase. For a dealer near you please call 888-425-0325 and we are at most auto parts chains.
Thanks for asking, Rick

Blah! Thats no fun. Thats exactly what they told me. We should all send them letters (via snail mail) every day.... until they realise that its just costing them too much in processing, disposing of, and reading all this mail... and make one. what ya guys think?! :)
