Wondering what I'm getting into. Got it for 500 dollars, 60k miles. I plan to customize it, especially with a steel bumper and maybe a lift.

That is super low miles, if in even average shape an outstanding deal! Take care of it and enjoy, V8 was really rare round here!

Fluid change would be a good idea, indiscriminate of mileage!

I agree with kydirtscooter, I would change all of the fluids in it: Oil, rear differential, transmission fluid and filter, and transfer case and front differential if applicable. I would also flush the power steering fluid and check the coolant and see if it needs flushing.
