I just purchased a set of Wrangler MT/R tires and took them out for a test run at Big Bear California. At first I started out on moderate trails and worked my way up to crossing streams which the tires handled well. Then onto a steep trail which I had been stuck on before. This is a trial heavally rutted my 4X4's getting stuck while trying to climb up. On the way down you more slide than anything else. After playing around in the valley I decided to give this climb a try. I went into 4 wheel low and kept the RPM's up. The tires readily grabed on and started to climb. I started to feel the tires breaking nice and easy but they continued to dig in over the ruts where others had failed we climbed out with absolutly no problems. At the top because we scaped against several rocks that would have taken a chunk out of the side walls of my old stock tires. I went completly around and could barely see a scuff let alone a chunk missing. Later I went into some real soft stuff which the tires did OK on but they still got me through without deflating the tires. On the highway they are a bit loader than the stock tires but not as bad as I expected. All in all I am imoressed with the tire and would reccomend them to anyone doing alot of rocky desert driving.

Big Bear

Starsailor,

Which Big Bear trails did you run? I like the Crab Flats area , and running Dishpan Springs and Holcomb Creek.
I had heard that much of this area was temporarily closed after the fire last fall, to allow for rejuvination. I know that Harry (Silver Coyote) had to completely re -route some of his BB runs, down into the Lucerne Valley because of the closure.

Big Bear Trails Driven on First Trip On my New MT/R's

We came in in 2N02 out of Pioneertown to Hwy 18 then to 3N09 to part of Holcomb Creek Jeep Trail to 3N16 then North onto White Mountain Jeep Trail and Down Frustration Hill. We then drove to Greenlead Mine then Headed Back up Frustration hill which is the one described before. It is a trial covered with loose rock and is reasonabley steep. Then Finishing out after jumping on 3N16 to Highway 18

How much $$$?

Saw the ad for those, looked _real_ nice, serious competition for BFG with the 3ply sidewall. I have a set of muds for my Ranger, my wife wants a set for her Explorer. How much did they set you back?

Regards,
Brian in CA

32x11.50 Goodyear MT/R's go for $164-$176 in Tucson Arizona.. (Goodyear shop wanted the $164)..

that is raw tire.. not including tax/mount/balance etc..

If it was close to the BFG price we would have had a set.. but we got our BFG's (same size) for about $120 each (raw tire)

Yowch!

Wow, that's a lot more, not a little. Too bad they aren't more competitive, but I guess that's their perogative.

My wife likes her BFG AT's, just that she got stuck crossing a marshy area and had to go around and I got through on my muds - guess she'll have to wait until the new BFG MT's come out.

Thanks for the update.

Best,
Brian
