Well, a while back my friend rolled his SWEET toyota.. (seriously, the best looking ride around, makes me wish i had a toyota instead of my explorer this baby looks so nice) anyway the roll cage crushed (pics below)... it was it's first time out.. ahah.. he rolled it at about 40 or 45 mph. twice over.

well, today we fixed up the squished corner on that sweet ride.. well most of it anyway.. still have a few things to do to it though, such as add some support to the front part of the cage so it can't squish again, as well as install the radiator, and add a "hoop" or something in the front to mount lights behind.

Anyway thought you guys might enjoy the video

but she sure is a beauty now, eh!!

thats awesome! ... best quote "O Well Its A Toyota"

That thing looks like a YouTube moment, waiting to happen:confused:

It's a wonder the tree limb didn't fall down!

And how did that happen anyway? Accelerator pedal sick, floor mat get caught? (Toyota recall humor)

You guys seriously need to take a course in roll cage design, tube frame engineering, and triangulation of frame tubing.... That whole setup is not structurally sound IMHO...

Darwin nominees? He is lucky his first time wasn't his last!!

Seriously guys, I would cut the whole thing off and start over. Do some searching for cage designs and then search some more.

If that toy is the nicest in the area then your not looking hard enough.

Sorry to be so negative but thing like this just fuel the fire for the feds to regulate everything.

well you guys are no fun

and yes i'm aware of the fact that the front portion of the cage isn't supported vertically (yet)

I'm glad I wasn't the only person thinking that... If that chain would've popped...

And, I hope you know that once a tube fails, it will continue to fail at the same point. Cut it off.

That thing looks like a side by side's inbreed cousin, I like it:thumbsup:

Well, the only part of the cage which is required for roll safety is the part behind the driver, the classic "roll bar" part. which is why it's back-braced to the frame, and has an X through it. the rest of the cage can fail and it really doesn't matter. the nose part is just for a replacement core-support, and the front-half of the cage will ultimately just serve as a windshield holder (As well as giving it the ability to stretch a canvas over the top) so it can fail and it's not very important

if i felt the front half of the cage was required for safety, i wouldn't have 90 degree bends in it, (or bends half way up) and it'd have an X (or at least a half x brace) and it would go directly to the frame through the body instead of around the side with an elbow... although it will be getting further reinforcements soon now that i know he's going to roll it constantly (so i dont have to keep fixing it)

i don't think there was enough force on that chain for significant chance of popping it. i've pulled out stuck trucks and even a skip loader tractor with that same chain, and had a bunch of tug of wars with it, those things didn't brake it.. maybe weakened it a little :) love those stretched out links!

but seriously, if i made boring videos, nobody would watch them. maybe the chain was a slight danger, but life is full of danger i'm not going to be a pussy about every little thing.

I think you need to realize that a failed part of a cage can become part of the danger - if it shears, the tube can easily go stabby stabby in the chesty chesty. I'd pay close attention to the section of the top tube right behind the top of the passenger's side A-pillar tube -- considering that A) its "kinked" B) it bent during the roll, and C) there's the HAZ area from welding. Since the cage has already deformed, it is also much weaker than before and the likelihood of it deforming again has increased significantly since faults now exist at the molecular level. But whatevs, if it floats your boat, then it dont matta tho - as long as you've weighed the risks.
