Hi all,
long time lurker, but first time starting a thread. As the title states i have a coolant leak. Ill start by giving a little back ground, i had a coolant leak for a couple months now, and ive been replacing parts that i thought was the problem, but the leak remained. It was nice out on Saturday so i decided to dive deeper and once and for all find the problem. Man i wish i hadn't lol. i have coolant leaking not from one but both sides of the block were the block and the cyclinder head meet......
The truck has treated me well since I got it a few years ago so i decided to return the favor by replacing the head gasket, heads, upper and lower intake gaskets, and all other gaskets on the top end. Ive read that the 4.0's heads are known to crack so instead of having them sent to a machine shop to see if they are bad, and the fact that this is my only vehicle at my disposal i cant wait around on this im getting new heads. So the plan is to do the job this coming weekend as I have the parts coming to me in the mail as we speak. I ordered a Fel-Pro gasket set from autozone as well as new head bolts, since they were having a 20% discount on orders over $100 shipped to the house. I have heads from clearwater heads coming, seeing how I saw other members using them without complaints, and at $210 complete the price is a great deal.
So if anybody has any certain tricks to make this job a little easier im open for advice, I should probably mention ive worked on older trucks and cars with my dad so im confident im more then capable in tackling this, I just know from experience that the more wires and electronics you add, the more chances of messing up. lol
I look forward to hearing from you guys, and ill post any problems that i run into.:exp:
