Hey, I'm getting a Flowmaster 40 Series Muffler, non Delta-Flow. Right now I have a 50 series, which took a lil while to start with the real sound. Do mufflers have to burn-in or something when they are first put in before they start with the good sound? My 40 Series was $60 on Summit, can't beat the price, so when I get it, what could I do to burn it in the quickest? Thanks!

A muffler usually takes about 2 weeks to break in. Just let it break in on it's own, don't try to do anything special for it.

Hey huskyfan23, since you had the 50 series, and are getting the 40 series, could you let us know what the difference in sound is? Why are you getting rid of the 50 series? Not loud enough?

happen to have the 50 series for sale?? ;)

I've had both the 50 series and 40 series on 2.25" pipes on a 92 OHV. Very similar sound the 40 series is a little bit louder. The 50 wasn't lound enough for me, sounded just a little louder than stock, 40 sounds like a V8 with a mild exhaust at idle, more like a V6 in the upper RPMS, but still good and mellow, not whiney.

The 40 Series is much louder for me just right now. I put it on today, getting welded tomorrow, and it's not even broken in. The sound is much deeper and it's as loud as the 50 just when I put it on. But if you want some real sound, get a 40, and hook it up to the pipe from your cat, but leave the outlet open with no pipe. Now that's loud!

why cant i find the 40 series flowmaster muffler on summitracing.com...i just wanna order the muffler that u have and i get no responses from it...it says they dont make any exhaust for the explorer..i have a 91 by the way

Jay

Well, you don't wanna search using Explorer, if you're just getting the muffler, you want #FLO-42441 but you will also need 2-1/4" exhaust pipe.

I don't remember mufflers having to get broken in. My flows sound exactly the same as the day I put them in on in every car I've put them on. Just wondering...

Well mine got louder over the couple burn-in weeks. A lot louder, actually.

Dont mistake louder for an exaust leak

Not a leak, burning-in is another term for breaking-in.

does anything think i can fit two flowmaster 40s without cutting my heat sheld?

Yes it can be done. I have True Duals with two 40 series Flowmasters. Spare tire would have to be removed.
