I was looking at the Flowmaster website, trying to find out which one I need to buy ('97 4.0 OHV) and the application thing says for '97-'98 X's with the 4.0 or 5.0 the pipe intake diameter is a dual 2.25" and the out diameter is 3".. is this accurate? the thing that really throws me off is the dual 2.25" in... maybe I'm just thinking of the wrong thing... but I don't see any dual 2.25" pipes when I look at my X...anyone else who has a 97 OHV know which flowmaster to get...

I'm looking at the Flowmaster because I'm also looking at a KKM intake.. and I read that if I buy only the KKM intake then my MPG will drop a little because the air in/out isn't split evenly.. is this true? It makes sense...

I have the ohv and I have a single in/out. As for what flowmaster to get, it depends on what you want in terms of sound.

I'm not 100% sure on this but I think the OHV is single in and the SOHC and V8 are dual in. Just the flowmaster that you want with a single in 2.25" and have a local shop weld it in for you. They should also be able to bend you a new tail pipe or two.

Just out of curiosity, if I wanted to check this out for myself, where am I looking to see if it's the single or dual 2.25" in? does that mean the air intake into the engine, or the exhaust air?

Look at your muffler, if their is only one pipe going into it, it is a single inlet. If their are two pipes going into the muffler, it is a dual inlet.

Look under the middle of the passengers side. You will see your muffler. There is probably only one pipe going into the muffler which makes it single in, but if there is two, then you have dual in. There will only be one going out.

You beat me to it Texplorer :)

Oh, that clears up a lot, I don't feel like running out in the rain to check now, but I think it's a single in and I know it's a single out..thanks

I bought a cat-back a couple days ago. I was going to go with Flowmaster but changed my mind at the last minute.

98fordX24, sorry I didnt mean it.:D

Don't bother with flowmaster's website. Ask around and find out who is the best muffler shop in your town (muffler shop, not a muffler chain store). Go to them with what you want out of your exhaust( sound, performance, economy, etc.). A real shop will hook you up with the muffler that is right for you, and fabricate any pipes you need. Usually a shop that fabricates its own pipes will save you money over a shop, or yourself, that has to buy pre-fab pipes especially made for your X.

I recently installed a flowmaster system on my 98 4.0 SOHC, it has dual inlet 2 1/4". Your OHC has a single 2 1/4". Flowmaster has a new SUV 70 series muffler. It comes in Dual or Single inlet 2 1/4". The outlet is 3" which I reduced to a 2 1/2" because I dont want my explorer to sound like a bummblebee. The muffler is awsome, its quieter than any other flowmaster muffler and it doesn't sacrifice back pressure. Oh yea the part number for the muffler is 524703. Good Luck
