Flowmaster or Magnaflow what?

What muffler do you guys recommend for my 4.0L V6 engine on my explorer. If I had a V8 I really wouldn't care what I'd get because they usually all sound great but on the V6 Idk. I heard somewhere that the Magnaflows sound better than the Flowmasters on the V6 Explorer's. I'm looking for a great sounding muffler that will add some balls to the V6's lame sound but won't be ridiculously loud. Any suggestions on what series of Magnaflow or Flowmasters?

If you want to add balls to your V6, you'll pick up a Flowmaster.. I'm just sayin...

Deja vu...... Check youtube for a rough idea on notes. flowmaster will give a deeper note if you go 40 series no delta, look out for hwy drone tho', magnaflow will give a performance boost due to its free flowing nature and puts out a nice note @ wot and below 1800 rpm. Check out youtube tho' to get some idea because both of those maufactures have heaps of different models.

striaght throuh design for optimal performance, and very tolerable @ crusing speed, but can get plenty loud when you punch it...

iva had a 40 series flowmaster, and currently run a magnaflow...

the flowmaster is alot louder then the magnaflow, i personally felt that it droned more...

are you getting just a muffler or a cat back exhaust ???

I've had the flowmaster 40 and its pretty loud. I currently have a Cherry Bomb Pro which is great. Its loud but not louder than a Flowmaster 40 just a notch below it and it sounds great all the time.

optimal design, very tolerable at crusing speeds, screams when you punch it...

if you want to keep the factory size exhaust pipe, these would be the mufflers to consider. also keep in mind bigger the muffler quieter it will be obviously, but anything sounds better then stock...

on the 02-03 models you have a resonator just behind your y-pipe. if you remove that your X will be a little louder, and you'll get a little bit more gains. you will feel your X pulling a " little " bit harder / longer in the top end. i did this to my old 03 X and it made a world of difference...

i had it removed since there was no 02 sensor, and my X still passed in PA...

it still baffles, and restricts the exhaust...

hell even if NY does a visual check under the X, just gut it out and run a 2.25through it, and youll be perfect fella !

Use a Magnaflow 13288 XL Muffler... Well that's if you want your cabin to vibrate from the noise.
I'd say go for magnaflow over flowmaster. I'm satisfied with my 11226, just way too loud.

explorerexpress.com has an exhaust for your truck good sound and prob about 15hp increase it worked great on my X

I like the performance gain, and the low end range sound. Its a little ricey at WOT. I'm giving my muffler until december this year to deepen up and quiet out. I've read it quiets out in 5000 miles.

im looking for a loud exhaust what if i get a high flow cat and take out my muffler and replace with a pipe will that be good? anhting cheap and loud that sounds good

Don't straight pipe a 4.0L they sound like SH**. When I was doing my Exhaust, I took my Ex out for a spin without the muffler on and yes it is loud, but sounds horrible. I suggest you get a magnaflow muffler. The 11226, like I have, is quite loud.

I wouln't worry about a high flow cat I heard the cats in the 3rd gen are high flow anyway. Dont know the emission laws in your neck of the woods or if you even care about them....try a catback pipe straight through or even two. I wouldn't go bigger than 2 1/2", If you do it post a clip to make me jealous. Should sound lumpy as
