I am treating myself to a fog light kit for my ST for Xmas.....it is an aftermarket kit, but supposed to be a direct OEM replacement. My truck didn't come with lights installed, but it has the blanks in the bumper for them. Someone told me that a lot of times the factory will put the wiring in place for the lights and then install the blanks in the bumper. Do any of you know if this is true or not? Also with the factory fog lights I understand that the switch for them is the same as the headlight switch, it just pulls out to turn the fogs on....my headlight switch will pull out a little bit, but it doesn't stay....can someone explain to me how the fog light switch works? I am thinking about wiring the fogs directly into the wiring for the lowbeams, so they will come on with the lights and go off when the brights are on....if I went this route, would I need a relay between the fog and the headlight or could I just wire straight into the factory wires? I am trying to keep this as simple as possible....so any help/guidance any of you can offer me is appreciated.....I will be attempting this install on my own, and I am wiring ignorant.....

Thanx....Anita

you might be OK. . .i'd check to see if its taped up somewhere behind the bumper.

Its true most of the body harness is the same 90% of the time. During mfg if there is an add-on piece (bumper, radio etc) to the main body that could change things and there could be two harnesses or more.

Just guessing here but if there are two bumpers, W/Fogs and one W/O Fogs, i'd be leaning towards no. The bumper/lights should plug into a body harness which would be pre-wired for Fogs. Its that little add-on piece that's tricky as there are pre-assembled before its added to the body.

My guess is the dash is prewired and all you need is to add headlight switch. On mine with Fogs, there is a LED to say they are on. Also it pulls out and stays out, LED light turns on.

When i added rear parking sensors and the wiring for the most part was there. Wiring for the Disable switch was there; wiring from the Dash to the Rear PDU was there. What i had to add was the wiring harness from the PDU to bumper (which i picked up at a JY). Another time on my heep, i added Factory fogs, bumper was pre-wired, dash wasn't go figure. Best is to climb under it and check if you see a wired taped up somewhere behind where the fogs are. Or if you have access to another '06-10 Explorer/Mounty/ST you can compare harnesses.

Good luck.
