hi, i'm looking to swap a 8.8 into my Heep, it seems that ford really got the axles right w/ the 8.8 and the 9. anyways, i want to know what explorers had the following options, i believe it was 95+ V8s but i might be wrong, anyways i want;
31 splines
disk brakes
4.10 or 4.11 gears (dont know which one ford used)
some form of limited slip/posi/locker
5on 4.5 bolt pattern

oh ya, and what width are they?
and how much should i expect to pay?

thanks alot,
Jeff

95+ 8.8 rears have disks. All Explorer 8.8s have 31 spline axles; early Rangers had 28 splines. All are 5 on 4.5" and 4.10 gears were available in all. The only factory LS is the Trac-Loc but there's a least a dozen aftermarket locker options.

Not sure on the width but they are very commonly swapped into XJs with no width modifications.

I have a Jeeper friend that picked up a 95 w/disks, 4.10s and LS for $250 but that's rare.

Here's a link to help you identify your axle of choice:

the width is like an inch on each side shorter on the 8.8 than on the dana 35 nothing noticable btw the code is d2 for 4.10 ls
