I know that I may be alone on this one, but I find that I didnt want to display my two new amps ( An MTX 4-channel for the factory sized 4 pioneer three-ways in all the doors of my 92' xl, plus an MTX class D amp running two polk 12"s) and I kept debating where I wanted to put it. But they couldnt go anywhere without either scewing up cargo space, foot room or just being in the way. Well, believe it or not the engineers had the right idea putting the stock amp in the left rear quarter panel above the whell well, now on that side of the car there is the gas filler neck in the way but pop open that right rear quarter panel and you will find TONNES of room. though it does invole replacing that stock "storage spot" for a piece of finished wood or something else. I fit both amps back there mounted to a piece of aluminul tread plate that will help them cool better, there is enough airspace that most amps can breath or if it is ever an issue You could mount a fan in there. I am very happy with my setup, it took a lot of work to mount everything real good and to wire everything up but everything is now out of the way and and hidded from prying eyes.

a picture or two please...
sounds like what I want to eventually do, a picture to get my brain going might make me go ahead and do it

I had my Rockford Fosgate amp back there in my previous install and I never had overheating problems. Glad you like your install. Lets see some pics.

hmmm..... on my explorer the stock amp is in the right rear. there is something else in the left side, but i dont know what it is. kinda looks like an amp, but not really. anyone know?

out of curosity does the aftermarket wiring harness with the headunit automatically bypass the stock amp

no, to bypass the amp you have to disconnect the wires going into and coming out of the amp. then attach them to your amp bypass harness. it only takes a minute.
