Don't know if this has been posted already. In 2001, I called Fords Customer Assistance Center about a used 5.0 Mustang that I had purchased. The person on the phone asked me my name, address and vin number. Two weeks later, I was sent for free a letter from Ford in Deaborn, Michigan. It read
Dear Mr Sanchez,
Thank you for your recent contact with Customer Relationship Center. You asked for CRC to provied you with the original specifications and optional equipment for your vehicle at time of manufacture. Your VIN number 1fabp27m7ef195081 decodes as follows. 1fa is ford passenger car, b is active belts, p27 is mustang 2 door convertible, m is 5.0l ho 4v efi 302 cid 8 cylinder engine, 7 check digit, e 1984 model year, f dearborn assembly plant and 195081 Unit number
