FROADER's "Re-registry"

Well as many know, I haven't had my explorer for quite some time. That has all changed since about 1 hour ago. I bought Mark's Explorer from him this morning (Felix on the board) and I'm already loving it.

Well, I figured I'd update this since it came back up.

The new look: Took off the brush guard and painted the EB tan to black.

About ten minutes with a little saw and channel locks and about twenty minutes with my 4.5" angle grinder with a 36 grit disc, (what I use for the tikis) and it was done.

I have a '98 donor vehicle for sale.

I'm going to see if I can figure out wth is actually wrong with it, and I'll go from there.

Nothing to update. It still doesn't run quite right, but it's not stopping me from wheeling it... yet.

Any updates are in the first post, but the last one was taking the tire carrier/swing out off the rear bumper back in March '08.

So, to get it smogged, I put the stock air box back on and I decided to just leave it on there since I don't really need the KKM. Funny thing, it's running like it's supposed to now. No pops, backfires or shudders, the thing runs great again. I've been driving it to work and back this whole week, and so far so good.

how old is your KKM?
any chance you had a leak in your intake setup aft the mas?

My old KKM developed many many deep cracks around the base after years of abuse. I am not sure how a leak at the filter could cause driveability issues though.... maybe it was plugged? LOL

I went with the new Amsoil filters = awesome dry filter

I worked on a 91 sport, could not figure out why it was running like crap, tried full tune up, etc etc for some reason I never saw the bottom of the intake tube, it had a hole the size of a softball in it from rubbing on the radiator/alternator LOL

did you clean your MAF when you put the new one on?

Also, did you plug in that vacuum line back into your stock airbox?

Jamie - The KKM is fine and the intake tube (thanks to Dannyboy) is fine after the MAF. That's why I was confused as to why it is running better. The MAF has been cleaned a few times (just because) but I didn't clean it between taking off the KKM and putting on the stock box.

Dan - I plugged the vacuum line (only for visual inspection) when I took it to get smogged. I actually plugged them into each other with the same line if that makes sense, so it looked like both were hooked up.
