Hey guys. Today I've got a question on something some may consider childish, but it's also a question that could help preserve my transfer case clutch. I plan on doing the BWM in the near future because why not, and I know that allowing the TCC to slip will eventually destroy it. So as to avoid this, I wanted to ask how easy it is to remove the front drive shaft? Any precautions? Anything I need before reinstall? Honestly the only reason I'd be taking it off is to have some fun in gravel and slide around a bit without destroying my transfer case. I'd also like to paint my driveshaft while it's out because why not? Every little bit helps clean her up. Whenever I go to get a rear locker I'll replace or repaint the diff cover too. Anyways guys. I was just wondering and wanted to verify that removing the front driveshaft and turning 4hi or low on was the "safest" way to have RWD fun.

Well, it's as easy as four bolts at either end. But if any of them are frozen and you round it off or snap it, then it's not easy or fun anymore.
Spray with penetrating spray beforehand.
Also, Mark the ends in a way that you whenever you reinstall, you will will know exactly in what position to pit it.
And, put a mark on each section of the shaft in case you separate them on by accident or purpose, so you can slide them back together in the exact same spline orientation they were originally in.

I had heard the bolts are pretty nasty usually. I guess if I round one off I'll put all the other bolts back in until I can get them all removed and replaced lol

You can do the front axle disconnect mod too, I have all the parts for it right now, I will be installing locking hubs on my truck when I get some time off work.

Axle Disconnect? Are you talking about converting it to a 1st Gen front end to allow 2wd?

My truck is rusty garbage everywhere so far but the drive shaft bolts were just fine. Proper torx and some Kroil then removing them was no issue.

Im talking about putting ranger cv axles and hubs then getting after market twist lock hubs so you can turn the front driveshaft on and off instead of having it spin all the time.. i will post a link when i get home
