Ok so on my 1995 next week my brother in law is taking my 1995 to school to work on it.
He is replacing all 4 Ball Joints for me.I already bought them.
I bought new bushings for the sway bar to replace also.
trying to get rid of noises and loose front end..

also i am going to buy new wheel bearings to have him replace also since it does not matter how long he keeps it.3 vehicles i have....

I am wondering if while all apart to replacve the outer tie rod ends...
since it has close to 160000 miles on it and all original..

are there any other things i should buy to have replaced at the same time...

My decision to put lift spindals on the front was thrown away because of such a high shipping cost for them. over $750 with shipping for 2 place..
so i am going to put a 2 inch body lift into it when I get it back fr the work..
I will be still close to fitting 35's onto it at that point if i go with 3 inch definatly fit..
just not sure if i want the extra work for that extra inch,

the outter tie rod ends you dont need to worry about since those you can do fairly easily.. the inner tie rods are the one thats a bit more involved.. see if you can get him to replace those.. that'll save u a lot of time/headaches down the road.

do they usually go bad as often...

now whne i take say an off ramp that while turning and i go over some heavy bumps the whole truck seems to jump to one side..
last friday morning on way hom,e from work I seriously though damn it is going sideways and going to ROLL...Oh no not my explorer i thought lol

They dont go bad tha toften but you mentioned your X had quite some miles on it so my assumption is they're going to go bad sometime soon... the parts arent expensive at all either. but i guess it all depends on how you drive your explorer and the conditions (roads around your area, etc...)

I think thats pretty common to explorers... or most SUVs for that matter.

The outter tie rod ends are easy to get to and will be easy to replace (will just need to adjust your toe on your alignment afterwards). The inner-tie-rods do go out, but not often like he said. But yeah, with that many miles - you can't be too precausious (and why not - you're in there anyway). You should also make sure he's aligning the truck as well. I am glad you went against the suspension lift on your truck, because that would put everything at different angels and with that much mileage - you'd probably have to replace a lot. Good luck

i stil would do the spidals if i ould get sheap shipping...

also that isn;t normal going around corners..to almost lift of the road..

my 2002 goes around the same corners like you are riding on air..

you might also want to consider replacing the lower control arm bushings.

I just replaced everything else ( as you are doing ) and even 4 new shocks but figured the lowers would be ok..... however I was wrong, and now when I hit a stiff bump in the road I can feel some abnormal movement going on down there. It has to be the lowers on my unit and I will be replacing them soon but it would of been nice to have done it at the same time as the ball joints.

good luck!

True, they're not expensive or difficult to do, but if it was my vehicle, and I was going to be in there anyways, I'd do them. With that kind of mileage, if they're not needed now (which is doubtful itself) they will be soon. It's only another $30 or $40 worth of parts, but if you wait, it'll cost you another $90 ($40 parts, $50 for the alignment) so in theory, it'd be cheaper to do it now anyways.

Just my 2 cents...
