Front Strut Rubber Boots

I was under the hood putting in an H&N Air Filter, and noticed the little rubber boots that cover the top of the strut mounts. One was off and just laying there ready to blow away. The other was about half off. Not sure what they do beyond protecting the threads, but you all may want to check and reinstall if they are loose.
